Hi! Time is slipping away again.Ā  I have been so busy!

So, Ā guess what we did again this Sunday morning?!Ā  Yes the family bike ride is back!

I know, how can I possibly be so excited, right?

Last Sunday, we got up around 7 or so and got ourselves in gear (oops, I promised you I might do that) to do the 10 mile ride “around the block”.Ā  It’s a fairly quick circle around the commercial area just outside of our neighborhood.Ā  We went again this past Sunday as well.

Okay, full disclosure, this was last spring, Daylight Savings Sunday.Ā  Hey, it was tough getting a picture this year.

I always look forward to this as the ride is guaranteed to boost my metabolism.Ā  I usually drop a few extra pounds of water too, even though much of it comes back, the ride does help to stoke the fires and keep the body in fat burning mode so I love it for that.

When the kids were younger, we used to all go for the family ride. Truth be told, we used to take them for donuts.Ā  Hey, sometimes the kids (teens at the time) need a little incentive. The youngest loved it though, well I think she did!.Ā  Overall we enjoyed it. It was good family time out in the sunshine too.

These days with all of the apps, you can get log your time and keep records regarding your performance all on your cell phone. When did we get all this gadgetry anyway?Ā  Personally, I still write things down but that’s just me.

Anyway, we logged just shy of 10 miles and yes, we “slow rolled”. The entire ride was just about 60 minutes or so but it was still pretty good for our maiden voyage of the season. This week we were at around 50 minutes.

So, we did the 10 mile stint and then at the end of it, Honey had something new in mind.Ā  Little did I know he had planned to do walking lunges in the backyard after the ride. Clearly he had lost his natural mind. I was like, seriously?!Ā  I guess I lost my mind too since I followed suit!

We did a couple of sets back and forth, 8 walking lunges toward the rear of the yard and then 8 back.Ā  We did this twice.Ā  May not sound like much but my legs were not too happy with me.Ā  Especially this week as I had done a strenuous leg workout on Saturday morning.

Oh, and he held a barbell and I held a broomstick (I know, wimp,right?!) on my shoulders while doing the lunges.This is the real deal people! Well, maybe not to heavyweight, big time bodybuilders, but we are doing our thing so that’s all that matters!

Finally, we always finish up by working abdominals in the gym. As for me, I was worn out this week. But slowly but surely I am getting results.

That’s what it is all about though. Find an activity that you love doing and get to it!Ā  Something you can do with your spouse and the kids is great too. You don’t have to spend your life in the gym.Ā  Mix things up a bit. It’s just about being active.

Remember being a kid and spending endless hours outside playing?Ā  Why can’t we do some of that as adults? Dust off those bikes, or skates, or jump rope or whatever, and get MOVING!
